Freshman Orientation Program at the Department of Economics, Premier University.

The Department of Economics at Premier University organized the Freshman Orientation Program for the 40th batch on September 23, 2025. The program was presided over by the Department Coordinator, Assistant Professor Badrul Hasan Awal.

The event was graced by the Honorable Vice-Chancellor of Premier University, Professor S. M. Nasrul Kadir, as the Chief Guest. Associate Professor Farzana Yasmin Chowdhury, Assistant Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, and University Proctor Mr. Sulaiman Chowdhury attended as Special Guests. The program was conducted by Assistant Professor Dr. Arpita Dutta of the Department of Economics.

In his inaugural speech, Associate Professor Mr. Bidyut Kanti Nath encouraged the new students to be diligent in their studies and to develop themselves as patriotic citizens.

In his address, the Honorable Vice-Chancellor shed light on the concept of Economics and explained how it is intertwined with every aspect of public life. He expressed his hope that one day some of the freshmen present would become eminent economists of the nation.

Special Guest Associate Professor Farzana Yasmin Chowdhury warmly welcomed the new students to the Department of Economics. In her remarks, she highlighted the internationally standard outcome-based curriculum of the department, its experienced faculty members, and various facilities. She further emphasized regular study habits, consistent class attendance, and academic discipline as keys to success in examinations and to building a bright career in the future.

Proctor Mohammad Sulaiman Chowdhury, in his address, elaborated on the university’s Code of Conduct and the importance of adhering to it.

Assistant Professor Umme Salma, Member Secretary of the Eve-Teasing and Sexual Harassment Prevention Committee, inspired the freshmen to remain conscious about issues related to “eve-teasing and sexual harassment” in order to maintain a safe and inclusive campus environment.

Guests of the event also included University Librarian Mohammad Kausar Alam and Assistant Controller of Examinations Yakub Ali. Librarian Kausar Alam delivered a concise and informative speech about the enriched library and digital library resources of Premier University. Assistant Controller Yakub Ali addressed the freshmen on the scope and significance of the “Examination Control” department.

Assistant Professor Sudip Dey, advisor of the 40th batch, presented an Academic Guideline for the new students. Additionally, a presentation on the activities of the departmental club, Premier University Economist Forum (PUEF), was also delivered.

In his concluding remarks, Department Coordinator Assistant Professor Badrul Hasan Awal emphasized the importance of participating not only in studies but also in co-curricular activities. He highlighted various significant aspects of the department’s academic programs and encouraged students to engage in social and research-based initiatives alongside their studies.

The orientation program was attended by all the freshmen of the 40th batch, faculty members including Assistant Professor Faria Hossain Borsha, Lecturer Iftikhar Mia, members of PUEF, and other departmental staff.
